What's it doing?
Won't fill, or fills slowly. First, make sure both faucets behind the washer are all the way open. If they are, the small screens where the hoses connect may be plugged with sediment. That happens a lot on well water.
Spins, but won't agitate. On a top-loader, that usually means a worn part between the motor and the agitator, or a lid switch that doesn't know the lid is closed.
Won't drain or spin. Often a sock, a coin, or a button is stuck in the drain pump. We can clear it and get your clothes out.
Bangs during the spin. Usually just an uneven load. If it bangs every time, the shocks or springs are probably worn.
Shows an error code. We read the code, then test the part before we replace anything.
Front-loader leaking or smelly?
Front-loaders clean well and use less water, but they have their own quirks. The rubber seal around the door can tear and leak. A musty smell usually comes from water and soap left in that seal and in the pump filter.
Two easy habits help a lot:
- Leave the door cracked open between loads.
- Clean the pump filter now and then.
