Early warning signs
You don't have to wait until everything's warm. Give us a call if you notice:
- Milk spoiling early, or a fridge that feels cool but not cold
- Frost building up on the back wall of the freezer
- Water pooling under the crisper drawers
- A slow water dispenser, or an ice maker that quit or keeps jamming
- New noises, like clicking, a loud fan, or a hum that never stops
Most of these trace back to a handful of parts, like a fan, a water valve, or the defrost system. Those are repairable, and we carry the ones that fail most often.
Garage fridge thawing in winter?
Lots of folks keep a second fridge in the garage or on the porch. In cold weather, the freezer can start to thaw even though it's freezing outside. It sounds backward, but it happens.
Many fridges have just one thermostat, on the fridge side. When the garage is cold, that side rarely asks for cooling, so the freezer doesn't get any either. We can tell you whether it's a bad part or just the spot it's in.
Built-ins and higher-end brands
We work on Sub-Zero, Viking, Thermador, and Miele, along with the everyday brands. A built-in is a big investment, and it's usually worth a repair before you think about replacing it.
Repair or replace? We'll be honest.
Some refrigerators are absolutely worth fixing. For others, especially once parts are hard to find, a new one makes more sense. We'll tell you which, and Brandon's appliance picks page covers the brands we trust to last.
★★★★★
“Brandon will renew your faith in service providers. He found an issue with our refrigerator that should not have been repairable and found a way to fix it. Otherwise it would have required a new freezer door. Can’t recommend him enough.”
Questions we hear a lot
How long will my food last?
With the door shut, a fridge stays cold for about 4 hours. A full freezer holds about 48 hours, a half-full one about 24.
Should I unplug it and let it defrost?
That can buy you a few days, but the ice comes back if a part has failed. Never chip ice off with a knife. It's easy to puncture the tubing, and that turns a repair into a replacement.
Do you do warranty work?
We're an out-of-warranty shop. If the manufacturer still covers your fridge, call them first. Once the warranty is up, we're glad to help.
Do you come to Fishersville and Stuarts Draft?
Yes. Fishersville and Stuarts Draft are both part of our community, and we're there regularly.
