Running, but the clothes are still damp?
This is one of the most common dryer problems out there. It usually comes down to one of two things:
- A clogged vent. Lint builds up in the duct that runs outside. The hot, wet air can't get out, so the clothes stay damp.
- No heat. On an electric dryer, a heating part has burned out. On a gas dryer, the part that lights the flame has worn out.
Often it's both. A clogged vent makes the dryer run too hot, and that heat is what wears the parts out. So we check the vent and the dryer together. Otherwise the new part just fails again.
A quick check you can do
Start the dryer, step outside, and hold your hand near the vent on the wall.
- Barely any air? The vent is probably clogged.
- Strong air, but it's cool? The dryer likely isn't heating.
Either way, we can look at both in one visit.
Other dryer trouble we fix
- Won't start at all

Time for a vent cleaning?
If one load takes two cycles, the laundry room gets hot, or you smell burnt lint, it's time. Lint catches fire easily, so it's worth doing soon. We clean dryer vents and can look over the dryer while we're there. More on dryer vent cleaning.
If you smell burning or gas
Stop the dryer and unplug it. If you smell gas, don't flip any switches. Get outside and call your gas company from there. Once everyone's safe, call us about the repair.

Questions we hear a lot
Can I just replace the fuse myself?
You can. But a blown fuse usually means the dryer got too hot, and the vent is often why. Fix the cause, or the new fuse won't last.
How often should the vent be cleaned?
Once a year is a good rule. More often if you do a lot of laundry or the vent runs a long way.
Do you work on gas dryers?
Yes, gas and electric. If you've just moved and need a gas dryer hooked up, we can help with that too.
Do you come to Verona?
Yes, all the time. Verona folks are our neighbors.
